114 Top Overflow Pools An overflow pool system is a system for the regular circulation of water, usually used in swimming pools or water reservoirs. In this system, pool water flows into the sluice channel located in the curtain part of the pool and this overflow ensures that the water level of the pool remains uniform. It also helps the filtration and cleaning processes of the water to be done properly. The system ensures that the pool’s water level remains at a certain level. It reacts instantly to changes in the water level (for example, when water evaporates during use or when water is added from outside). It transports water and allows excess water to leave the pool. In overflow ponds, the weir channel is usually connected to a filtration system. The overflow removes dirty water from the top of the pool and allows filtered water to return into the pool through the pool’s supply line. This results in cleaner and healthier water. Overflow pools are also preferred aesthetically. The smooth overflow of the water level creates a visually pleasing effect. As the water overflows, circulation continues. Thus, the water is continuously cleaned and the chemical balance is maintained. The overflowing water balances the overload inside the pond. It also collects the overflowing water and prevents it from spreading around the pool and prevents the formation of puddles in the outdoor area. Pool Types Skimmer Pools The skimmer type of pond is defined as water overflowing from the inside of the pond, rather than from the sides of the pond. This type of overflow is related to the structural design of the pool or water level regulations. In these ponds, water can overflow through overflow channels in the interior of the pond or through skimmer systems on the sides. These channels allow water to flow systematically at points where the pool’s water level rises. In skimmer pools, water flows into the overflow channels, which are then recirculated. This ensures that water is not lost and the pool’s water level is always kept constant. At the same time, the visual effect is created that water is being collected or “overflowing”. Working Principle of Internal Suction (Skimmer) Ponds: • Water Level Regulation: In these ponds, the water level is usually kept close to the overflow channel. Water overflows into the overflow channel and is directed back into the pool’s water circulation system through the overflow channel. • Location of Overflow Channels: In these ponds, the overflow channels are located on the inner edges of the pond, usually 15-20 cm below the top of the pond. This allows the water to flow smoothly into the overflow channel. 114
